TRACTOR x SEMIPERMANENT DESIGN COMPETITON

I had to make a poster for this brief for an assignment, so I decided to enter it into the competition. There are two competitions running, one with real judges and "people's choice" competition based on votes (read: popularity contest - something I am totally against) but it is something which I would still like to extend an ask for help in winning. I have some decent hopes for my chances in the professional competition. Regardless. Here is my entry:

Screaming Gets You Nothing

Call me unlucky, but it looks like Latterman isn't the only thing I'm missing out on by the skin of my teeth. Deathwish have just announced that the one and only, the almighty American Nightmare (aka Give Up The Ghost) are playing two shows in December. The first is in Boston on the 29th and the second is in LA on the 31st.



My luck is something astounding. I come to America and I miss out on the start of the Latterman reunion shows by one day. American Nightmare a few weeks later. Some rich dude who reads my blog, please chuck me heaps of money so I can stay in the country. Please and thank you. But, on a serious note, if you're going to be around or if you're planning a trip abroad, DO NOT SLEEP ON THIS!

Hung out on Venice Beach all day in the blaring sun without a polariser (or sunscreen). Checked out the Sunset Strip and it was pretty average apart from seeing Zooey Deschanel and her eyes melting my heart...

SOMEONE HELP ME OUT

So, I was wondering if anyone happened to get the Mixed Signals comp that Run For Cover put out? I'm going to be looking for copies when I get back. I managed to miss all the buzz about it.

Also, Run For Cover are putting out a new Tigers Jaw 7-inch, however I believe it is only a part of some weird pre order thing. From what I know it will be coming out on black and on a colour. If anyone could get me a copy (as I predict they will be released while I am overseas) I would be massively grateful.


In other news, I am working on quite a few little things. Today I will be trying to finish my zine so I finally have copies (for release at the Edge Day show in Brisbane). I am also working on a cool video project, and a tape. Everyone get excited.

Blowin' Up!

So I wanted to make a quick little post about breaking 1000 hits on the blog. Since uploading all the videos from the park BBQ (around 7pm last night) I have had almost 700 hits on Vimeo and an additional 200+ hits on the blog. Thanks to everyone who lurks/reads, it's kind of a cool feeling.

Acoustic Park Show Part 4: Jud Campbell

This is Jud Campbell (of The Disables) who I was lucky enough to see doing a covers set on my eighteenth birthday. He did a few of his own songs, but it was half through one of them that my 8GB of SD card I had for the day had filled up (first time filming mistakes). This is his cover of the almighty Bruce Springsteen. The one and only, "Atlantic City". I think I nailed the colour correction and the vintaging/editing that I played around with on this one (finally).

Acoustic Park Show Part 2: Ash McIntyre

This is Ash from Against/Lookout Mountain/Headaches doing some acoustic stuff. This is the second song he played, it's a cover of a Lucero song called "Chain Link Fence". I think he only played one song of his own, which was the song before this. The rest of the songs were covers that people (Luke Smith & Nick Lucas) suggested (yelled at) him to play. Enjoy.

Lazy

So I'm sick again and I'm lazy and it's hot and I've got assignments. There are a few cool things sitting on my desk that I am going to post about very soon. FFO; Tigers Jaw, Riffs, Satan.

Birthday Purchases

I ended up emailing Summersteps Records a while ago about some information on this. Before Tigers Jaw were a band, they were a duo, and they released this. It is the first TJ release and it is called Belongs to the Dead.



This was only ever made as a handmade/limited CD-R. When I sent them an email they told me that they would make me my own copy. I don't usually post about CDs, but this is too cool to ignore. The songs on this have mostly been re-released/recorded as a full band, with some of the name changed. It comes in a paper sleeve, and it has a really cool insert that I am going to scan in which has some funny explainations about the songs and some things to cut out to make a tiger hat/mask.



On Friday I saw Greg from Arrest Records post about selling some copies of the test pressing from the Beartrap and Battletruk split 7inch and I jumped on it. This is out of 10 copies, of which I think about 3 or 4 were sold. These are the ONLY 10 copies of the record as the pressing never went ahead. This also means that it is the only thing Battletruk have ever released on vinyl.

There isn't a cover. There isn't anything. This was given to me in a clear inner sleeve and the only marking is the SIDE A label which you can see in the photo. There isn't even a SIDE B label.

I haven't listened to the songs yet, but both bands are fucking sick and you should check them out!

The Simple Things

I've never really been one to post about everything I do (like anyone cares), but I feel this weekend has put a lot in perspective (for the good). I thought I'd write down my thoughts...

This weekend past (well, on Thursday) I turned eighteen. Considering I had a fake ID for a year and a half before hand I really didn't think this would mean too much to me, it didn't really feel like a milestone, and not necessarily in a bad way either. For the two and a half months of not being eighteen and not having a fake ID (after losing it) I didn't miss it all that much. I missed out seeing a few good bands but that was about it.

Anyway, this weekend was a hell of a lot of fun. I ended up going to a lot of different places, and even though there was a distinct familiarity everything was also kind of new. I saw Judd from The Disables play an acoustic covers set and got to sing my heart out to some of my favourite songs, I saw my friends in Waiting Room play one of their best sets, I saw some more friends play an acoustic show, I saw Extortion at a shitty metal fest. I spent time with some people I knew meant the world to me and I spent time with some people I liked but didn't notice how great they are until now.I spent too much money, I did too many bad things, I drank too much, I did too many drugs; but after all of it I am amazingly happy. I'd rather have these stories and no money in my wallet than anything else...

This weekend coming I get to see Title Fight with Touche Amore, Headaches and Break Even. I get to see my boy Hugo (Toy Boats) play some songs. I will hopefully get to see Taipan play under a bridge, if not I will see them with the one and only Sick People and finally I get to see Paper Arms again (finally) and The Gifthorse for another last time.

Despite all the little things that seem to crush me, it's nice to be able to sit back for the first time in a long time and notice that I am genuinely happy.

Absence

So it's been a little while since I've posted. I've been sick and smashing assignments and out of the house a lot. However, fear not as I am in the process of posting some new content.

The zine is 95% ready to print and a few other exciting things are in the works. Stay tuned folks.
